light on jars?
    #366493 - 08/03/01 08:11 PM (22 years, 1 month ago)

this is my first attempt at cultivating mushrooms. so far i have not had very good luck but im not about to give up. my jars of verm and brf are sitting in my closet being kept warm at a temp around 80 to 85 by a light for keeping a reptile warm. its been about a week and no signs of life, does this kind of light affect colinization in any way???

No need for the light, just wastes electricity(Does no bad or good). Well not during the colonisation anyway. Depending on age and strain spores can take up to 2 weeks to show growth. Don't fret, if there is no contamination showing up your good. Just keep the temp up and wait for growth.

You don't really need the light for the the light but you do need it for the heat.
Everything sounds fine, just have to be patient and hope your syringe was viable.

he made it clear that the light is for heat not light, otherwise he would bring it out of his closet. sorry for repeating max's words but i want anybody that doesnt know this to really get it into their heads, heat is good.

Dry heat will dry out your substrate.

thats why you put it in a rubbermaid container so the moisture can bounce around the chamber.

Gotcha. I should really stop reading posts before bed, I lose meaning somewhere.

The light is good for heat. It won't do anything bad for colonization.
