four weeks and water
    #366289 - 08/03/01 12:41 PM (23 years, 4 months ago)

i have two questions for anyone who can give me any help. this is my first attemp at cultivating mushrooms and i need to work out all my kinks and bugs that comes with every new enterprise.

1) i preped my 1/2 pint canning jars with brf and verm but it wasnt for another 4 WEEKS that i was able to innoculate them due to a shipping mishap with my syringe. can the jars sit there for that long and still be good???

2) its been a few days now since i innoculated, no signs of life, but there is a lot of condensation on the insides of the jars. the temp is in the low to mid 80's. is this because of too much water or is this normal???

thank you for your help now and in the future for this will not be my only set of questions.

4 weeks? damn, that;s a long time...
You shouldn't start preparing the jars until you actually have all the supplies needed...

Anyways, the jars should still be good. You're just increasing the risk of contamination, but it looks as though so far you've done everything right, since there's no sign of contams.

The only thing is that maybe your cakes, by the time you birth them, will be a bit dry? I'm not too sure about this though.

The condensation in the jars is pretty normal at 4 weeks. My friend's jars also have water on the inside of the glass. Just make sure there's not a pool of it sitting on the bottom of the jar. Signs of life should appear any day now. Good luck.
