emergency casing
    #3662427 - 01/22/05 01:08 PM (11 years, 11 months ago)

I recently had 12 1/2 pint jars colonizing. They were about 7 days along and colonization had stopped and the jars looked very dry. They were being warmed by a heating pad with a few towells as buffers. Unfortunatly being almost directly on the heating pad and having the innoc holes uncovered cause them to dry out(duh!!!). I then decided my only hope was to separate the colonized parts from the uncolonized parts and make a casing.

I seperated as best I could. I put 1/2 inch of dry verm into each of my two containers. I then misted till near saturation with a very dilute solution of hydrogen peroxide. I took the chunks of mycellium and brok them up to create as even a layer as possible. I then misted this till near saturation also. I placed 1/2 layer of verm over this and misted as well. I put them in my terrarium which is completly dark right now and is at around 79 degrees f and 90% rh.

I checked them today and noticed some mycellium poping up. No signs of contams. I then patched and misted.

The plan was to fan them twice a day and tomorrow turn the light on.
I'm hoping to get at least enough shroomies to trip on while I wait for my new jars to colonize, which btw are in a proper incubator now.

How does this sound?
Any suggestions?
What can I expect to see in the next few days?
Should I mist them daily or just let the humid from the perlite keep em moist?

Thanks

sounds good, dont mist too much and not directly.
i wouldnt do any more patching so you dont risk overlaying them
when you turn on the light drop the temp to 68-70 if that is possible
patience is key
when they start pinning you can bring the temp back up to 72-75 if you want, also cut back on the light to only 4-6hrs a day.

The smaller casing is showing alot of wispy mycellium growth. Earlier today when I posted there wasnt much but now about 35 percent of the surface is covered with this stuff. I turned the heating pad off and this lowered the temp from 79 to 71 degrees, and turned the light on. I cut a few small holes in the top and sides of the terrarium to try and lower the humidity. I am also going to stop misting regularly. The condensation on the sides and lid has lessend. Both casings I can see mycellium just below the surface. I am fanning 4 times daily.

What should I do about the wispy stuff on the smaller casing?
