TIT .... Not working so good =(

Hey all just had a question about the TIT procedure. Usually following the PF style I can store BRF cakes in a dark area but since winter its been really chilly in my area. So I made this TIT that has a heater the glasses and a small pump to circulate the water and keep it from going sour. The problem I am having is the BRF caked are drying out WAY to fast and the myc doesnt even get a chance. Can anyone offer any suggestions as to why I am having this problem?
Thanks. -Odd

Hi Odd,
Are you able to measure your humidity? I'm guessing it's on the low side. If so, start misting now, and get some perlite or georock asap. JMO

Really ... You suggest perlite in a TIT incubator?? Sounds like a simple logical solution. I guess I didnt want to resort to that extreme. But you gotta do what you gotta do for the children.. =)

you're saying the water between your tubs gets sour? That's odd, but try putting a single drop of bleach in it. Know how they say in the event of a disaster you can use a drop of bleach to decontam drinking water? Well same thing should get rid of any TiT nastiness.

Hmm, that doesn't seem consistent. Are you sure you're loosing moisture in the tit? If so, I would think to mist inside the inside tub would cure the problem. Could the air inside the tub be that dry??

yeah put some bleach in the water, no need to circulate really. to get the RH up put a cup or two of perlite inside the incubator.

No perlite in your TIT!
You can: - lay a moist towel at the bottom which you place your jars on This prevents jars from direct contact with heat source and adds some humidity to ur growing chamber.
Which cake recipy did you use and tell me bout the holes in the lid, the size if you cover them etc...

Im used several diff. teks and put all the info in one but the recipe is 60cc mineral water - 1/2 cup of verm - 1/4 cup brf. - cover with foil and steam - I have no holes in my bin Its closed completely
Im not having difficulties with the water in my tit just the drying of the cakes.... way too dry! Im going to try a moist towel on my next batch and well see what happens.
