Poppies?

I was looking into adding some poppies flowers to my garden this fall. I had heard that poppies.org was the place to get them, but the site seems to be in the process of going down, no more sales, no new members, etc. I don't want to just google the word poppies and pick the first site on the list. If anyone knows a good place to order from, or even better a sponsor site that sells these I would really appreciate it.

hell, you can get pop seeds at your local grocer. the germ rate isn't as good as ethnoshops but you will get some sprouts. i personally would rather order from an ethnoshop but if that option isn't available to you, take a walk down the spice aisle.

If you have an Indian grocery store near by check them out. They had like a lb of them for 2.50 and they were the "Persian White" strain.

Do the different kinds of Papaver Somniferum matter? I can get 50g of persian whites for $10 or 5g of Chicks and Hens for $20? Do the chicks and hens yield higher or something? Or will the persian whites be just as good?
Thanks, bB

Yield a higher amount of poppy latex (opium). No, the Hens and Chicks strain isn't any better than Persian Whites - PS is a fine strain. 5 grams for 20 bucks is a rip off.

So I planted the Turkish variety, is that a pretty good strain as far as yield goes? Also, about how long will it take to produce some pods, and how many pods you think I need to produce enough opium for just a few doses?

Yeah the Turkish strains are good. I think they are suppose to get decent size pods. The plant will shows signs when It is ready to be sliced, the pods will develop a white ?frost? coating and the crown (squid looking thing on top of the pod - I think it looks like a squid anyway ) faces/turns up - thanks to MycoCakeEater for really helping me out with poppies. It takes quite a few plants to produce enough opium (smoking it?) for a couple doses. Are you growing these poppies indoors or outdoors? Edit: A good example of what I am talking about: http://www.sspictures.fsnet.co.uk/images/gcpoppies/opium%20poppy%20group.jpg The poppy on the left (with no flower/pedals)

I germinated them on my patio/sunroom but ima move em out to the greenhouse in about a week. I know I was suppose to plant em in the fall, but I forgot I had them until a few days ago. They seem to be doing fine though, that picture is 3 days after I planted them. I think im going to have like 6 plants in that pot and then I will probably put another six in another put, so 12 plants in all. Plus I tossed a few pinchs next to our shed so maybe those will grow.
