Pins Growing on Sides/Bottom of Container

hey guys - I've got a DB 15lb kit which started pinning about 2 days ago. My only problem is, I've got pins forming along the bottom sides of the container as well as the actual bottom of it. The container is clear, so I don't doubt that some light is leaking. I've got a flouro on top of the container which is on a 12/12 cycle. My concern is that the pins lower down will not reach the top, some of them are growing downwards. What do I do with the ones that don't reach the top? It will be rather difficult to remove, is it OK if I leave them tehre or will they turn bad? Any help is appreciated thanks

The container is clear. There is your problem. Next time case in an opaque container . I suppose you'll have to improvise at harvest time.

yup...shouldnt of used a clear container.... ..maybe try this, (hopefully the mycelium holds) find a pan that is larger than your tub, place the sterilized pan over your tub and do a quik-flip...if you do it right, it wont break apart...then take some sterilized casing material and do a patchjob around the borders.... ...it may work....its the only thing i can think of off hand...

those pins on the bottom will have to be removed, or they'll rot and intruduce contams...

I still have a decent amount of pins forming on the top, just seems like there are more on the sides and bottom. Unfortunately this was my first grow and didn't know any better. I figured since I was buying a well-known kit, things like this would of been thought out by the providers. Its a bit irritating that Dung Brothers sell a kit with a clear container. I guess I will wait and see what happens when harvest comes and figure something out then. I'd be pretty upset to only get one flush out of these. - nick

Wrap your containers in alu foil. I cased a contaminated jar in a clear glass container just for the fun of it, and the sides are simply packed with pins. Those that have died have not contaminated the casing yet, but that's possibly because the substrate itself is already packed with bacteria.
