Improper Pasturization of Compost...

It has come to my attention that I had not properly pasturized my compost. The Coprinus lagopus spores can withstand high temperature as noted in The Mushroom Cultivator. I think I will sterilze my straw + manure a little bit longer. My fault, not the Sporechicks fault for me growing this mushroom. The pink/purple contamination however was not my fault

You should go back and edit your post under vendors to its original form "Disappointed w/Sporechicks!". I was looking at that board yesterday and noticed that you changed the title of the thread. Change it back so others will stay away from these fucked up vendors.

By the way I am still waiting for my refund. No further emails from them. Live and learn!

Has anyone else grown whatever that thing is out of a syringe they bought from Sporechicks? That thing looks dangerous.

Those mushrooms do look VERY scary huh? I grew those things on straw and manure. 4 part straw... 1 part manure. Could someone please tell me what kind of mushroom those are? Luckily I?m not some dumbass newbie that just ordered a syringe and grew these puppies and ate them. I would have been very disappointed with my "TRIP"... maybe not... because it would have been a trip to heaven to meet my maker.

Thats what I thought at first too! I thought either they were inky caps or they were PC?s with a HELLOVALOT of humidity and were growing HELLA fuzzy. I?m not gonna eat them though.

A reply to your question. I don?t think anyone has tried to grow them because of the whole pink/purple meningitis scare. Well, I went ahead and tried to case them and I am very disappointed at the outcome. This kind of makes me not want to grow anymore. It?s a bit scary you know? The syringes I have now are. Thai, Golden Teacher, Australian, B+, South American, and Equadorian. Which one should I start with? I have heard rave reviews about the THAI strain. Need your guy?s inputs please.

post it in the mushroom hunting forum, asking them to ID, might be a coprinus, dunno tell them the growing conditions, etc to the T. they might tell you something

i just checked my "book" and they look like the lawyers wig (coprinus comatus) and it is edible! what di they look like before the caps opened?

it also looks like the cone brittle-head (psathyrella conopilus) and they arent edible, but they arent deadly either. are they about the saze of youre hand (a little smaller)?

I had a couple of syringes from Sporechix also, I developed the pink/purplr mold, so I thrrew them all out, Tried Ryches Equador syringe and this time I am getting the ropey growth, unlike the cottony growth from the sporechix.

I have replacements from sporechix, so I will post my results with them when I complete the grow.

They aren?t the mushrooms that grew out of my straw+compost. The small mushrooms were small and fuzzy. In the pics that you linked us to, the small mushrooms were not fuzzy. My mushrooms look scary!

I don?t think they?ll give you a refund... however, they are happy to replace any syringes that you received that were fucked up. I?m sure from the good reputation that they used to have that the new spores will be fantastic

hey i ordered from spore chicks and my mycelium is doing GREAT, 12 jars are about halfway colonized, I don?t think its a regular thing, probably more of a freak occurence, still interesting though...

Those mushrooms surely didn?t come from your pink mycelium...more likely from the straw and dung you ?tried? to spawn with it. Tis a type of coprinus ...I see them all over the cow fields here just like that.

Great_Cthulhu is right on. It?s a type of Coprinus from improperly composted or pasturized straw/manure. A very common occurance. The pink from the syringe is probably some sort of bacteria that has no relation to the mushroom you grew. Most Coprinus are harmless and none that I know of are deadly.

I just had a shit load of those shrooms. They are one of the inky cap mushrooms. About 100 diferent kinds.
They are a "weed" mushroom. See page 270 of the Mushroom Cultivator.
Most likely airborne contam or from high moisture/ammonia content of the straw.

I tried the mushroommagic.com tek for pasturozeing my straw and had sour ammonia smell within days.
Anyone know of any changes to thier method of opasturizeng straw that would help?
