This is my first time using millet based bird seed. However not the first time cultivating mushrooms. With that said I let my seed soak in some water for around 14hr., and then I used the same water and heated it to a low boiling temp for about 1 min., after that I turned the flame down to keep a slight and steady simmer for around 25 min. till a noticed afew seeds (millet), exploding. I stuck a spoon in and pulled some out about ever 30-45 seconds to observe this. Once I was satisfied with the recomendations of ANNO (5% of seeds exploded), I turned the heat off and let the entire pot cool down to room temp., which took about 2 hours.
Then I rinsed, and let drain for another 2 hr. and filled jars, and PC.
i've always used the PF tek (2+yrs now) with my own slight changes with really good results. Enough to make me keep using it for all that time. But I gotta say this Millet is VERY good! Took alittle time to take off, but once 50-60% colonized, things started to happen rather quickly after that.
Hope this helps yea some.
I don't think you want your seeds to germinate, and that kinda time just might do that.
Good Luck

thanks for the input, i left work at lunch n rinsed, jar'd and got my girl lookin after the PC for me

hopefully she doesn't blow my apartment up :hellfire:

when i checked the wbs it didn't look any diff. from a 24 hour soak, so i think it's safe to say a 40 hour soak is OK as well

48 hour soak is ok usually..though sometimes some whole grains will germinate before then. Depens on how fresh and such each bag you buy is. A simmer after 48 hours can let you sit it for another 24 too without much of a problem before PCing. Always best to try within 24-36 hours though IMO.
