Incubation and birthing questions

I inoculated 6 1/2 pint jars with koh samui superstrain, and 6 1/2 pint jars with mexi cub on friday the 14th. I was looking at them twice a day or so and nothing really happened. Between monday and tuesday I left them alone completly. I opened the drawer on tuesday and to my surprise every single jar had germinated. The SS jars seemed to be coming along a little faster with some having rhizomorphic growth. The mexi cub jars looked a little sparser having many growth points but not very dense. I checked them today and the SS hadnt really spread much but the growth was much denser than the previous day. So far no signs of contams even though my "sterile methods" were far from perfect. I feared the jars were drying out as they were sitting directly on the heating pad. I checked the jars and some were very warm while others were quite cool. I elevated them off the heating pad using this wire grill thing and wrapped them in a towell to provide more even heating. Also I put a bowl of water in the drawer with them to keep them from drying out. Most of the Jars look like they are 10 - 20% done.
My question are as follows:
Is it common for jars to dry out some in the incubator?
Does the mycellium usually colonize one area very densly before spreading?
Would it be ok to flip the jars upside down now to prevent CO2 build up?
Since the jars might dry out a bit should I dunk and roll before the first birthing?
Any guestimate given the current progress(10-20% done in 5 days) as to when they might finish?
Thanks alot you guys rock.

I would only flip the jars if you are really having problems and they have completely stopped. (I've head anno say that co2 is actually good for the myc to some extent at this stage.) Also, don't want direct head to the jars - this is what is causing them to dry out. Instead try to heat them w/ indirect heat; look up the Tub in Tub.
