Concerning cake appearance just after birthday

i'm a first time grower using the PF tek. my first two jars to colonize completely took about 15 days, so i moved them to my coke bottle terrariums. after about 3 days, the cakes are starting to grow little white fuzzballs all over. is this normal, and is this a good sign? what should i look for next, and what is the average time for pinheads to show up? also, does the "poor man's terrarium" really work? any help from someone more experienced would be greatly appreciated. thanks a lot.

I know you're looking for some "experienced" users to answer this... I'm not really experienced but I know the answers: The fuzzballs mean that your humidity is too high. Are you fanning the bottles 2-5 times a day? Next thing you should look for is the pinheads. Pinheads will usually show up in the next week (i think). Just give the bottles light every day. The poor mans terranium does work, but compared to other methods, it gives very little results. But for a beginner, it's an ok method... For greater results, case your cakes.

ok, so fuzzballs mean too high humidity? i am fanning them 3 times a day. should i increase the volume of air in the container to lower humidity? also, what do you mean by "case your cake"? should i go ahead and start building a real terrarium for the rest of my cakes? are the coke bottles a total waste of my time? thanks again for the responses

coke bottle WILL work. i got 3 dried gms from 2 flushes, one cake. its not very efficient, but it works. fuzzballs may be pins forming.

yes, increase the amount of air... Pull the cut top-piece up more so that there's more air. "Casing" is another way of getting mushrooms. Basically, you take a cake (like the one in your coke bottle), you crumble it, and then in a container you put down vermiculite, then the casing, then more verm. (other things can be used, verm is the most basic) Casing increases your yields; you'll get much more by casing one cake than having it in a coke bottle. Nevertheless, the coe bottle method does work, like the above post says...
