try to keep them from freezing.

some people say that the 10 degree drop from incubation to fruiting is enough to cold shock, but i think something around 50's is reasonable...

you decide what you want to do. Go for:
A)More sanitary
B)Less likely to freeze them

Try to stay above freezing. Though hitting 32 a little won't kill the little ones for sure its not good. Just some where on the one of the shelves of the refridge should be good. Garage has worked for me before too, though I generally think the garage is more contam rich enviroment.

The cold shock will only really do you good on the first flush...after that it doesnt matter if you do it or not.

I have cakes on their 10th flushes and still harvesting  One bag accidently was dunked in a freezing fridge. I woke up to a frozen cake in ice! When it dethawed, well, it's still fruiting today!

I wouldnt freeze em on purpose, but if it happens to freeze no worries.

You do not have cakes, you have a casing of grain. BIG difference. Cakes wont produce anywhere near as many flushes because of the lack of nutrients compared to whole grains such as rye.
