Dry Substrate

I'm on my first cultivation try. My BRF/Verm cakes are about 90% colonized and moving slow now. I put one in a zip lock and crumbled it as to prepare for casting. The cake was pretty dry and a little hard. Normal? Should I inject some water into the rest of the jars or just case now for moisture?

Hey Mon,

They tends to sometimes get hard when incubating. I usually use a little more water than recomended by mmgg. If you plan to case them it won't be too big of a deal.

Good luck, keep jammin

I used a propagation mat from my MJ growing under a nursury flat filled half way with water. The temp was 83. Maybe the heat dries it up.

Think about it, if you leave something wet on something warm it will dry out. You've got to keep the humidity up with these incubators.

Next time just wait until all your cakes are ready, then birth and case to keep them moist instead of doing them at different stages.

is it ok to add abit of water to colonizing jars to add bit of water, cakes at 95% done at best and 10% for worst one, All look pretty dry, were in a cupboard which was abit too hot about 90-95f for first 10 days. Wpuld this have dried cakes out too much?
