Oh dear...
    #3645309 - 01/18/05 07:57 PM (19 years, 2 months ago)

I was just surfing through www.bible.ca

I am shocked about many things, some are shocking because of ignorance, others because of pure contradictions...

I didn't know for example that christian church supports
capital punishment..

I mean either it's eye for and eye or it's love your enemy and forgive..make up your minds.

And the part about drugs is so ignorant.

What a messed up religion this is (no offense to honest loving christian individuals)

Yes, that is indeed worse, but its not really anything educational or "official"..

This site I was checking is like a guide for christians, and it's talking about modern theological views of christianity.

It's funny how bible is like a big book where everybody looks
for little holes where they can stick their hates and beliefs in and make it look all spiritual and comming from god.

Yes, it is amazing isn't it? You should meet some the Baptists around my little town. I swear, I've never met such hateful and judgemental people before!
But I'm not knocking those Christians who actually act like Christians - I have met some genuinely nice people who are Christians. Sadly, they seem to be in the minority...

Yeah, there are some genuine ones......but if jesus was alive to today he would vomit to death seeing what his "followers" do, that is of course if they don't lock him him up or kill him again.

One of the things that strickes me as stupid, even humorous
is the whole division of the world into christian and non-christian regarding the way of life, art, behaviour, practices etc.
I mean all those "books for christians", "magazines for christians"
"top ten of what-a-decent-christian-should-read of the month"
"toillet paper specially designed for modern christian ass"

There are even tips for discussions on some web-sites:

like:
when someone says, "why this, why that"
the wrong answer is : "...."
a christian should respond "because...."

And of course the all time favorite classic:
"it's in the bible!!!"

Yea that's the funniest thing, it works in generations...
first there are all the folks from the bible teaching the old testament stuff, then those old jews turn into people like Kaifa
and others, the bad guys in the bible, and jesus comes to correct their flaws, and now the folowers of Jesus turn into new Kaifa's
and are once again repeating the history.
If Jesus came back today he would probably get shot by an angry christian after being release from the jail.

That is, if they didn't immediately put him in the locked ward of the local mental hospital...

Yeah, I am also astonished to hear that some Christians are in favor of the death penalty. Some even claim to be 'pro-life' and favor the death penalty. In my opinion that stance is self-contradictory and irrational.

Killing people is always and everywhere wrong. It can only be tolerated in some special circumstances as a last resort to prevent dangerous murderers from killing more people, but these circumstances are rare and do not come into play in a stable country like the USA which is capable of safely isolating the murders from society without killing them.

As far as the drug thing goes, the persecution of drug users is allowed and perpetrated by the Christian Right because of an error made by Martin Luther during the Protestant Reformation. He removed several books (The Apocrypha) from the bible because they were written in Greek instead of Hebrew, and because they did not fit into his new theology. One of the books which was removed is the book of Wisdom. This book affirms that all the creatures of the earth are wholesome and that there is not a destructive drug among them.

God did not make death, nor does he rejoice in the destruction of the living. For he fashioned all things that they might have being; and the creatures of the world are wholesome, And there is not a destructive drug among them nor any domain of the nether world on earth, For justice is undying. (Wis 1, 13-15)
http://www.nccbuscc.com/nab/bible/wisdom/wisdom1.htm
About the Book of Wisdom:
http://www.google.com/url?sa=U&start....htm&e=8092

The Christian Right who have wielded so much control over this country from its inception have not been playing with a full deck. If the Bible thumpers were using the Book of Wisdom and the other books of the Apocrypha then they would never have been able to support narrow minded laws which call some of the beautiful creations of God evil. The war on Marijuana, mushrooms, and all our other favorite creatures is an insult to God, and is contrary to his divinely inspired Word. The Protestants don't get it because they are missing part of that Word.

I agree. If you value the life of a fetus, you should value ALL human life. And then there's that sticky part about forgiveness, but I'm sure they can rationalise that away too.....

I'm a Christian ....I hate baptists... capitol punishment?

I'm against the idea of killin' babies (an OBVIOUS wrong), but I don't care if someone does it because it's NOT my child and NOT my sin... you can't control the direction this world's going

but

Why shouldn't someone be killed for killing someone? Oh I'm sorry I guess all those babies were busy killing people.... ??????

Love enemies? sure. There's nothing wrong with the government enforcing it's laws and having ppl enforce them the whole love your enemeey be forgiving is about YOUR life nto supporting/opposing gov laws/reguatlions.. ah ignorance

"I'm against the idea of killin' babies (an OBVIOUS wrong), but I don't care if someone does it because it's NOT my child"

Such compassion you have. If you truly are against abortion you would abhor the practice no matter who's child it was. This is very hypocritical. Life is sacred so long as it is my life?

This is not about the question is capital punishment right or wrog, we have discussed it in other threads, this is about being consistant
with your faith.

So if your faith says don't kill, you can't be for capital punishment, no matter how logical it sounds to you, either that
or change your fate into something more compatible with your ideas.

And not to mention that the bible is very consfusing on that part,
it is obvious that it's never ment to be one book.
In the first part you have angry god revenging and its "eye for an eye", and in the second part you have a loving god that does not revenge and Jesus is a loving and forgiving guy.
Wo what'll it be? A tyranin god or an universal loving god?

So why should a man that has killed be killed?
Since we are talking in christian domain, because god said:
"the revenge is mine", and "do not kill"
