Hello,
Can someone please tell me what the water to WBS ratio would be for quart jars, I tried a search for WBS but it was a little overwelming. Thanks in advance.

Okay, I had already found those, I would like to skip the soaking phase, I just want to add the WBS to the quart jar, ad the h2o, and the PC. But I need the water to WBS ratio, if anyone knows it offhand. Thanks in advance!!

Oh I see. For a pint jar, 2/3 cup seed to 1/3 cup water works perfect every time. Doubling that should do a quart jar just fine.

I don't know why Penlight said that. After many batches both ways (pre-soak and just loading) I've never had any contams. An hour in the PC at 15 P.S.I.>All

mabye just luck, I've never tried the straight PC myself but the general concensus is endospores survive the pc if not soaked to germ them first, but if the grain colonizes fast enough the endospores can't take over becauese myc is already there

Besides, soaking doesn't hurt it in any way so I don't know why you'd want to skip that step. All you have to do is put the WBS in a container and fill with water then let sit for 12-24 hours. It's not like it takes a lot of work or anything. I always soak because it's one more thing I can do to be certain I won't get any contams.

If you are not into the whole soaking method of grain prep ... 35 mls of water per 1\3 cup (leveled measure) of grain works well , you may have to make adjustments during different times of year if you live where it is hot a dry , and when doing so , make adjustments in 5ml incriments . I for one do not believe in the soak it method , but I am impatient and lazy And IMO is BS that you will get lots of contams if you do not soak it first
So for a qt depending on how full you make it
1 cup of grain = 105 mls of water (A little over 5\8 full after cooked ) 1 & 1\3 cup of grain = 140 mls of water (Almost packed full after being cooked) GL

NO grain should be maxed out after soaking it , in fact that is why you let sit in a cloander prior to loading jars .

My people boil it and let it sit to soak up as much h2o as possible. Then load jars and PC.... Never a problem....
This was done with these Pan cyans.... Works good:)
