Would freezing dried mushrooms damage the psilocybin potency? Also would keeping them at room temperature cause them to rot over time?

5 grams for your first time is a lot.!! might want to try like 1.5 and work your way up.... or eat all 5 and buckle your seat belt.!
freezing dried mushies is ok as long as they are totally dry, and if they are that dry, they won't rot at room temp.

no, freezing is the most popular way to keep them good. and well my first time was with 2.5 grams. i actually planned to eat 4. after it i knew that it would have been to hard. be careful. edit: make sure that they are -really- dry before you freeze them. otherwise it won't be fun to eat them

Just in case anyone thinks of it ...

5 grams your first trip?
I would advise against that unless you have experience with other hallucinogens at high doses?

5g on a first mushroom trip is asking for trouble. I ate this much on my ~10th and got my ass kicked. Like no other day.

Antar- I may get blasted for going against the grain here but I think you should take the dose you plan- 5 grams. Unless you are just looking to "get off". If what you are seeking is an inner journey in which you can improve yourself, take the whole dose in a good environment by yourself or with a good friend (for the first trip, having a close friend would maybe be preferable unless you are familiar with hallucinogens in general and then don't worry). Just remember 1) you can't eat enough mushrooms to kill you, as long as they are not the wrong kind 2) it's only a trip, and you will come down, and 3) many have gone where you are going and all who have gone have survived and many have come back better people. Let go and let the mushroom take you. DOn't hold back. Keep a pencil and paper handy to write down your thoughts. Good luck.

oh, and yeah, as long as completely dried, your ok freezing them but they can last a very long time in a cool dark place if dried. No need to freeze if you're using them in the next few months.

i guess that is true, but a counter-point to that would be to take a lower dose first just to get a bit of a feel for the mushroom experience and then when ever so slightly more ready for what is coming take a higher dose. for some people it is just all too much, all too fast, and they will come out of it not knowing what hit them but that they were seriously out of it for a while. doesnt have to go that way, but it can
