Preevaluate A jar

I took one jar out of a batch to make sure that I don't waste spores on the set. 24 hours after sterilization I took the top layer of vermiculite off and the substrate was very dry and cakey. Is this right, can anybody tell me what the substrate as this stage should feel like. Thanks I don't want to inoculate jars that are'nt right.

Tell us what your substrate is, how you mixed it, and how you sterilized.

Hey Mon,

I would suguest you use aliitle more water than sujested, but not too much. Any time you mix water a flour it will get a little tough after it starts to set. I alway make one jar sustrate at a time so water wont evaporate.

Best of luck, keep jammin
