to dense of a substrate, troubles with colonizing the mycelium.

Brf is food. Verm is your canteen. Fruiting stops when the canteen goes dry, or the food is gone, or contamination sets in.

The pf tek gives a good balance of food and water, with a low probability of contamination.

Using a little more brf shouldnt hurt. Doubling it would.

i am a real newbie to cultivation, but i believe i had better results with 2:1 than 3:1 (verm:brf of course). original pftek is 3:1 or even 3.5:1. i have to experiment a little more but that is my impression at the moment.

2 part verm
1 part BRF
1 part water

That is the ratios of the PF tek that I read.

>2 part verm

>That is the ratios of the PF tek that I read.

The classic PFtek provides 2 different formulas, and in addition to this a variable water content.

Standard formula:
1/8 cup of brown rice powder
1/2 - 2/3 cup of vermiculite
40-45 cc's (milliliters) of water

Maximum fruiting formula:
1/4 cup of brown rice powder
1/2 cup of vermiculite
60 cc's water

and the newest update:

1/4 cup of brown rice powder
1/2 cup of vermiculite
45 - 60 ml (cc) water (1/4 cup = 59 ml)

"The water is the crucial element that variates the results. The different brands of vermiculite varies creating differing moisture levels. So as already stated in the PF TEK, one should always vary the water amount, take notes and compare results. The "MAX" water content can really make a great fruiting and give several flushes when the balance between the substrate elements is good."

right water content should be 90% to saturation, that is take out one tenth of your dry substrate, add water to the rest until it is saturated (=stops assorbing it) and add the dry tenth to the stuff... correct me if i'm wrong please :-)

Sounds about right, or a bit too wet.

The easier way to achieve a perfect substrate is to add water to vermiculite first until saturated, then add the BRF.

I have found that a dry/fluffy mix will collonize a little faster. More water can be added to the cakes after collonization by dunking.
