Double Trouble

So afoaf did a double tub project (not tub in tub, a double tub fruiting chamber, see http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat...66af88b63f4dbb)
The first time his results were mediocre, harvested about 1 oz dry, too many aborts, stems were too skinny, matured too early.
He made some improvements, bigger holes for more air exchange, holes lower & closer to casing layer, & paid closer attention to water content. He used PF cakes to spawn worm castings/shredded straw/verm and incubated in the dark for 5 days. Cased with coir/verm and incubated for 5 more.
Inititated fruiting by dropping temp, giving 12-18 hrs light and fanning a bunch. Today is day 10 of fruiting and although the mycelium is visible in the valleys of the casing layer, there are absolutely no signs of pins. The coir seems to be drying out considerably.
The only changes seem like they would have helped. What could possibly have changed, causing his project to fail?
Thanks in advance,
Earl

Maybe the bigger holes caused a humidity drop?

They are not huge. About 1 inch big, lightly stuffed with polyfil....
Maybe stuffed it in too lightly? But just wanted to make sure aire can flow through.

Is he opening the tubs to fan? The whole concept with the double tub tek is to leave it alone and let it do it's thing. All the extra fanning might be drying it out. If the tubs are in a room with good air circulation all that needs to be done is sit back and wait. GL

I hear what you're saying pshawny. He only opened them a few times to initiate fruiting and a couple times since then to mist just because the coir looked so dry. He stuffed the polyfil a little tighter, after what bruceallen said, but he'll stop opening them and see if it makes a difference.
But last time (when he did get fruits) it seemed like the polyfil was stuffed too tight because the stems were skinny and they matured way early. That's what inspired him to leave it so lightly stuffed this time.
The tubs are in a corner and the circulation isn't that great, but he has a big ionizer running next to them.

How long does it take until you normally see pins? Might take just tid bit longer to see them. But I don't know of any more possible improvements sorry.

The other times it has never taken longer than a week from initiation of fruiting.

Thanks for the encouragement, I will trust they will come with time.....I just wish I could deal with the coir drying out without having to open the tubs and mist.
