I just recently got rid of some old cakes that I figured were toast. I said "what the heck, I'll throw one in the ground under some bushes in the back yard". Six days later (today) I go out and look to see if anything has surfaced - not being too optimistic about the whole thing - and look what I found . . .


Do you think I should let them grow some more (until the veils tear?)

pretty lucky!! i would eat those!! you cant mistake them, they look like they ere homegrown!! try taking good care of them, maybe youll get a couple flushes. what materials where they buried in (clay, mud, etc..). i want to know for future reference.

That's not luck. That's nature at work brothers and sisters. This is what we ALL need to be doing. Who cares if you get to pick it or not. I buried them in dirt (no clay content) amongst a row of bushes with no help whatsoever. I simply dug a hole with a small gardening shovel, broke up the cake, and put about 2" of dirt over the cake. Never watered, we had some rain and high humidity and that's it. I was going to put out some verm to mix in with the dirt yesterday, but then I saw what I had in the picture. Pretty cool, eh Al?

try letting them get a bit bigger and then just when the veil breaks cut off the cap and put it in a similar spot in your yard and try to get them to grow there. it would be cool to have a mush infested backyard. and with shrooms like that growing in your backyard i wonder what the point in you having a terrarium is. just stick you cakes outside.

Beauty eh! Obviously you don't have many slugs in your yard!

I threw some used cakes in a shady spot in my yard recently and covered with grass clippings. A few shrooms popped up but were quickly eaten by slugs.

The reason why you can't see the pictures is this.
He was using another server than the Shroomery's.
And he probably didn't pay his bill.....or got a new account.
It also could have been running off his own server.
Or he put in the wrong addy for the file for the picture.
