microwave sterilization

...seems much easier than trying to boil jars in a pot/pressure cooker. but do you have to use plastic in the microwave (as it says in the index of grow tips) or can you use the regular glass jars? are there any disadvantages to using plastic containers instead of jars for colonizing the substrate? anyone's input would be helpful, i'm just trying to get out of boiling jars in my pasta pot.

my girlfriend's name is Erin - and you should try using your pasta pot, as i once saw a similar post where they said that a jar of water that was micorwaved for 8 minutes on high, was virtually full of contam. within three days...

can' say for sure but, didn't have room in pan so two of my jars went into microwave for 5 mins, then cooled for 30 mins or so, then back to microwave for another 5 mins. That was about 3 weeks ago no sign of contams, altho not colonizing very well, but that could be to the small amount of spore solution i put in as was running out on last two.

I experimented with microwaving 2 verm/brf jars for at least 20 minutes this is what happened. First I micro'd all the moisture out of the jars even though I had a separate jar full of water to keep moisture in the micro. Added boiled water after sufficient cooling and now have 2 contamined jars. Take it from there, good luck...
