Silver caps
    #3638236 - 01/17/05 09:49 AM (19 years, 2 months ago)

I was just trying to find out if anyone knows the scientific name of silver caps. I buy them quite often but i cannot find one picture on the net of any shrooms that look anything like them... actually people on this site say they dont exist. These shrooms are very intense, more so than any other shrooms ive taken, and no matter how manmy times you've tripped, you still only need a 1/2 8th. They are odd looking too. Inm bgettin some soon so ill post some pics.DESCRIPTION: red cap that is almost just like a bulb, yet unlike other shrooms, it is very or perferated... or almost like a sponge. There is then a silver ring around the bottom of the cap and the stem is a bright white. Th caps are small... ranging from about 1/4inch to 3/4inch. The stems range from like 1 1/2inch to 3inches. Help me out if youve seen anything like them.

by perforated and spongelike do you mean that the cap is wrinkled, or do you actualy mean that it is porous?

next; can you describe this silver ring? do you mean that there is a shiny whitish ring around the margin of the cap like a viel?

it sounds to me like you are poorly describing psilocybe cubensis with unsualy reddish, unoppened caps and unusual potency.

If you could post pics of these "silver caps" next time you buy some it would be easier to try to figure out what kind of shrooms they are.

The drawing you made looks like p. cubensis. The "silver ring" you drew looks like the unbroken veil because the mushrooms were picked before the cap opened. Happy mushrooming!

Erm, those are fresh psilocybe cubensis, so they're not going to look the same considering he's describing dried mushrooms.

I'm guessing that his "silver caps" look exactly like this: http://www.erowid.org/plants/mushrooms/images/archive/psilocybe_cubensis_dried1.jpg

Or this: http://www.erowid.org/plants/show_image.php?i=mushrooms/psilocybe_cubensis_dried3.jpg

Or this: http://www.erowid.org/plants/show_image.php?i=mushrooms/psilocybe_cubensis25.jpg

All psilocybe cubensis.

1.75 grams is not enough at all to be 'intense' if you trip often. Even once a month it would not be intense.. If the caps are not open it means they are at the most potent weight besides when smaller that they ever will be..NO way it could be cubensis..Unless you are talking about a long time between trips

it's conclusive, you are describing Psilocybe cubensis.

i'm not sure what to make of your claims as to potency. the size you mention for the caps rule out aborts, wich are more potent by weight tahtn more mature specimens.

they could, i suppose, be another species of Psilocybe, but with that size you quote at that early a level of maturity, i can't think of a one.

those pics helped alot. Yes ... they must just be unopened Psilocybe cubensis. Still though, the potency is what gets me. One of my friends eats them about once a month and he still only needs a half eight to 2 grams to trip balls. I dont know if this is a slightly diff species or just picked at a diff time or what, but they are still more intense than what i've had before. Yet someone said they are the most comman street mushrooms... im sorry to say ive eaten and seen many diff. shrooms before but these are a lot more potent than anthing else ive had.... which i usually need an 8th. Peace

An eigth is 3.5 grams, that sounds about right on for a nice visual cubensis trip.

He said HALF an eigth in the original post... no way once a month 2 grams of cubes(even abots) will make you 'trip balls'

maybe though- I dunno

Since this mushroom sis often a reddish/brown to copper/brown color I have no idea why it would be called silver caps. While the veil edge is unbroken it may appear to be a silver white but that is not the cap of the shroom, only a partial veil edge.

mj

Is this one silvery looking enough for you

This is an Ecuadorian cubensis with a kinda silvery look to it.

mj and here are some of the cubes fresh and similar to your sketch.

mj and have a shroomy day

Your friend "trips balls" on 1/2 an eighth because he

a) Doesn't weigh much
b) Doesn't shroom much
c) He's lying
