2nd flush in mycobag help
    #3640426 - 01/17/05 08:16 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

SWIM wants to fruit in the bag for 2nd flush.
SWIM was thinking of using this plan:

fill bag w/ water and let sit for 24 hrs (should i leave it clipped while dunking?)

drain. clip.

mash up the cake in the bag.

wait for 2nd flush.

there could be a 3rd flush also right?

Yes there could be a third flush and maybe a fourth.

I do not know who SWIM is, but give him this advice and tell him to get a computer!

Don't break up the cake! After you harvest a flush, make sure you get as many aborts off the cake as possible. Fill the bag with water such that the cake inside is fully submerged (I use paperclps on the lower sides of bags to hold the cake under water). Bottled water is good, but tap will work fine as well.

I have bags that are on the 10th (yes, tenth) flush, so don't worry about people saying what you should expect from a bag. I got an oz dry off the first flush and it just goes down hill after that... As of the 7th flush I was yanking a quarter oz dry, not on the 10th flush they are yielding 1/8th oz dry. As long as you dunk after each flush and toss them in the fridge over night, they will keep going and going for quite some time. Most people dont have the patience to take the 20 seconds to fill the bag with water, that or they assume that the typical saying of "3-4 flushes and 1/2oz to 3/4oz if you're lucky" is true and just discard the cakes after 3 flushes! Just keep dunking after each flush and they should last you quite some time! Plus to top it off, when the cakes ARE spent (after a dozen flushes and 3+oz dry per bag for me) you can bury them outside or in a flower pot and keep them growing that way.

Bags rock  :dancing: :dancing:

10 flushes... wow never knew that was possible ... and 3oz dry is high too!

so fill the bag with water and put it in the fridge while soaking for 24 hr?

Thats correct, 10 flushes. I will likely keep them going until they stop producing shrooms, then I'll bury then. Heck, why stop them as long as they are still producing shrooms, it makes no sense!

Once you harvest, just submerg the cake in the bag in water. I normally fridge anywhere from overnight - 18 hours. I wouldn't reccomend any more than 24 hours, overnight works just great!

i ended up massaging/mashing the cake after dunking it. do i have to put it back in the dark before the mycelium covers the cake again?

Why did you mash them? That is done during colonization to ensure and promote complete and even colonization. Once they are colonized and fruiting you really don't want to break your cakes up, they lose little by little every time you harvest. I'm concerned if you are breaking your cakes up between harvest, they wont be able to colonize again like they do during the mycelia forming stages.. once they are fruiting its a whole new story regarding how they can colonize...

If your bags colonize again and/or continue fruiting, leave them be, and just dunk after each flush.

Then again... you may be on a new track that could be the next greatest thing, who knows. Let us know how they do after you broke them up, how they colonize and fruit!

I wouldn't recommend breaking it up man...not after it fully develops the myc. all your probably doing is hurting it. also misting has worked just as good as dunking (in mycobags not pf) so when the flush is done, then just open it up and mist it till its good and moist DO NOT break it up and throw it back in the closet, all there is too it. mycobags are pretty foolproof. if you got the right temps..

peace!

Myceliums first stage of life is growing. Mycelium's second stage of life is fruiting. Dont confuse it and make it grow in between fruiting.

yup looks like i confused it.

after mashing it up I put it in the dark again for a couple days and the myc is all over again.

hopefully it will fruit. 12/12 light cycle @ 80 degrees

this flush looks to be as good as the 1st but the 1st was only 12 dry grams ... i guess i would have atleast saved time by not mashing it
