to RAISE the low pH of acidic peat, oystershell (sold in petshops for parrots to nibble on) cn be useful. crushed eggshells too. with just coir and verm, you don't need to worry too much. probably close to neutral pH.

You are needing to raise and more importantly maintain the ph of the casing layer. While coir and verm are just slightly below neutral (7), your casing will experience a ph shift to the acid side (lower) if you should want to wait for second and third flushes. In my experience those neutral casings will benefit from calcium carbonate supplementation in order to keep ph up and retard contams. Calcium carbonate powder would be your best bet. Lime will be too alkaline, and oyster shell is really only good for providing a more coarse casing...very little ph buffering is accomplished with the oyster shell without extensive processing (crushing).

powdered chalk, ground limestone(garden centers sold as lime), check with home
depot, lowes and billiard supply houses, they'll have large blocks and powdered chalk.

You asked about egg shells. Yes, they work. I bake mine until brownish to burn off any potential nutes. Crush them up nice and small. The shells will do nothing at all until they encounter acid. I dont worry about measuring. One fistful per shitload is about right.

Another excellent source of ph lowering products is the pool chemical section of Walmart (or a pool store, although they tend to be a little more pricey). The "PH Increaser" product is generally calcium carbonate.
