my dog inoculated 2 pint sized birdseed jars with cambodian spores 12 days ago. he used 5 cc's in each jar because he wasn't going to need more spores for a while. the jars were cool when he inoculated them. there is no visible myc or contams growing at all. in the past cambodian would fill up jars in much less time, but this is the first time he's used birdseed. does birdseed not colonize as fast.

Did you soak / simMer WBS first, rinse & drain until it did not drip?
Did you use tyvek filter on lid?
You should see some germination inside 12 days?
What is your incubation temp (80 /85F). Jars may be to dry & temp not right?

Im having the same prob with mine, mines due to low temps though. I inoculated 2 pint jars of WBS on 12-31-04 and their probably like 15% colonized. its most likely one of the simple problems that agar stated.

i did not soak and stuff, i did use tyvek filter, and my Incubation temp fluctuates between 78 and 80 F. I'm not losing hope until i see contams.

yeah ya gotta soak from what i read to germinate the endospores existant in the wbs... they won't all be destroyed by simple pressure cooking alone so they must be germinated by soaking, making them more suseptable to thermal death. but i guess give them a few more days n c what happens

Next time soak them for at least 8 hours, 12 is best. Then simmer for 10 minutes on medium low.

Soaking is very overrated!
Besides, it has little/nothing to do with the germination of your spores.
Get the moisture content right through simmering, pressure cook the piss out of your grain, and knock them up with viable spores. If you're getting contamination, PC longer. If you're not getting contamination OR germination of your spores, it's most likely your spores. Of coarse be sure to always cool your jars 100% prior to injecting.
