"Passion"

Well this really seems to be bugging me, so I'll randomly post about it and see what shroomerites think... My dad's been buggin me for over a year now about following your "passion" in life, and doing what you love... So I've basically spent a year thinking very hard about what that "passion" is for me... The problem is that I haven't for the life of me been able to figure out what that is. Any ideas?

Didnt you ever take an aptitude test in highschool? I mean, come on, those things are dead on.
Seriously, taking some college classes sparked my interests in new things. It's a great way to get a feel for what you wanna do.

Not too sure I have the money to take college courses to try and figure it out... Might be necessary or worth it if I really wanna find out though

your first 2 years are exploritory anyway. If you plan on going to college anyway you'd be killing 2 birds with one stone

do you like writing? filmaking? gardening? watching tv? all of these things can be turned in to a career.
but dont let society fool you into thinking you need a career.

I know I don't necessarily need a career... There's tons of things I can do in life... And I really like the idea of many different professions, but can't seem to put my finger on one I have a 'passion' for.. Maybe you can have a passion for many things?

you can definitely have more than one passion in life, it's good to have many things you love to do. it's also not possible to just "know" what those things are...you have to get out of you hometown, travel, see as many places as you can, talk to as many people as you can, experience as much as you can, read books, take classes, etc..you will find your calling, but you must keep your heart open to any opportunity that comes your way, and don't hesitate to take it.. ...once in a while you get shown a light in the strangest of places if you look at it right.... there has never been a line in a song that is so true

Well.. If I were your dad.. Then my life could have been 2 scenario's:
1) My life sucked and I never did what I wanted, so I told my son to follow his passion. 2) I did what I like and wanted to do, and want my son to be as happy as it made me.
I think you should ask him about this.
You need to do some soul searching to find your passion. And you might just not yet have reached the moment where you recognise your passion.
He said it hoping to make you happy, not to drive you insane.

Consider yourself blessed that your dad is encouraging you to follow your passion, as opposed to what he thinks you should do...

Well I don't know what YOUR passion is...
What kind of things do you like? What are you good at?
What kind of job have you always wanted?

okay heres my passions....
1)making love 2)kissing 3)admiring beauty 4)writing poetry/songwriting 5)creating things, art/ architecture/music etc 6)growing things (all sorts) 7)singing 8)making people laugh 9)standing in the rain 10) letting other people know its okay to stand in the rain
you know... some people are just passionate people, and some are not, some go through the motions. you choose to be either way!
it sounds like your life has become disenchanted... perhaps a vacation is in order, alone or with friends to someplace youve always wanted to go... appriciate something!
appriciation creates passion if you see the wonder!
isnt the whole idea of earth amazing? and then to think WE humans are on it? thats CRAZY stuff.
youll figure it out if you need to.
peace brother.
