Small shrooms

I know a monkey who's growing Thai KS cubensis mushies. And he says that the majority of his shrooms are growing very small and then the caps open and the veils break so he has to pick them. We're talking like really small, maybe one inch long and half inch caps. Do you guys know anything that might help grow the shrooms a little bigger? The cakes may be a little dry I think.. is there any way he could rehydrate them while the pins are still fruiting?

how much humidity are they getting? how many times are you fanning? tell me these and i will help you some more. if youre giving it the right humidity and youre fanning it enough, and you think theyre just dry, then you can dunk them. put the cakes back in the jar and fill up the excess space in the jar with water (tap water works) and let them sit there for 24 hours. that tricks the mycelium into thinking it just rained and they will start growing again.
i may, fucking drop something natural somewhere and it might grow into another piece of shit like you. i dont recognize any of you fucking people, youre not real, you came out of comic books.

I fan twice every day. I'm worreid about how much humidity they're getting because I'm using the perlite tek but the top isn't airtight but I really have no way to make it airtight because of the situation. Is there any way I can give it a little humidity boost to make up for the not airtight top? Like misting or something? (By the way, the monkey wrote that.) =P

if they are gray caps and grow very fast and thin then You may be growing a batch of ink caps. This just happened to me! They taste like crap and no trippy! Over one night they will go all the way through thier cycle, and leave you with a blob of inky colored ooze on a thin stem.

No.. that's not it, they have red caps like Thai KS is supposed to have and they look healthy and everything. Just the caps open up while the shrooms are small so the monkey has to harvest them when they're small. They're like miniturized (sp?) versions of other shrooms I've seen.

It could be any number of things. Sounds like you may have CO2 problems, as well as problems with humidity. Try fanning more than twice a day--like four times or more--and if you don't have a hygrometer to measure humidity, get one. Your humidity shouldn't be more than 92% once pinheads develop. If it's higher than this, don't mist as much (or not at all since you're using perlite). If it's lower, mist more often or make sure your perlite has adequate moisture. Also, check your temperature. I've found that If it's too high mushrooms will grow small or stop growing altogether.

Make sure you have very decent air exchange. That means a typhoon blows through once or twice a day to clear everything out. I only use a spray bottle to increase the water. I just spray directly onto the cake. Of course the cake is in a quart jar so all I have do is fan regularly and keep an eye on the glass to guage the amount of vapor condensing . If there is no droplets or condensation I give it a couple sprays. I don't know if spraying directly onto the cakes is frowned upon here or not , but I have nothing but good luck.
The cakes I refer to are made of 100 ml. wheat berries(after cooking) innoculated with 20 white rice kernels covered with great growth from a multispore innoculation.
