Bought a Cactus But Not Sure If It's San Pedro Or Not...
    #3635619 - 01/16/05 06:25 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Hello,

I just bought a 4" cactus today at Home Depot. I picked out the one that looked most like San Pedro. I wasn't really after San Pedro itself, but I thought it would be nice if I had it for future use

It has 6 ridges and has a star shape just like San Pedro, but the spines are sorta different. In all the pictures I've seen, San Pedro has light, almost white spines while my cactus has brownish black ones. I know its a subtle difference, but you can never be too sure.

Here's a pic of it:

It looks almost like 5 ridges, but it's really six. If you guys need more pictures, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks in advance!

I'm certainly no expert but that does look like a san pedro. I'm surprised you haven't got a reply from someone more knowedgable yet. Hope it is a san pedro.

Maybe asking in The Ethnobotanical Garden will help.

that does look like a San Pedro, but people have posted pics of cactus that look like that too. San Pedro has more rounder star edges, not so steep an angle. i could be wrong, but i think that is not a San Pedro.

I'd say Myrtillocactus geometrizans. Alot of Home Depot stores sell this cactus...

Yep, 99.9% sure it's a Myrtillocactus geometrizans. It's not psychoactive, but it's a good grafting stock though...

Definately blue myrtillo. At least you picked up a good graft stock.

It was posted in General Questions and I moved it to The Ethnobotanical Garden. Why?

from what ive read san pedro can have only 4 ribs or 6 , 8 w/e none to spines like the one b4 this by the way wtf is wrong with it
and if you want to be 100% sure that u have a tricolerus
they are sensitive to pyrethrins an insecticide i believ in ":end All"
i go to stores with this on a q tip and dab plants come back to see if the area is all dead and black this has never actully happened at the stores any ways
iam also sure this chemicla will kill other cacti too but once u know what it looks like you dab a small area and it dies (the small Area) atleast you know you have the right genus

any cacti can have any amount of ribs at any age like c. goes 1 3 5 7 9 stops a bit iveseen my ak47 with 14 leafletts
its all only geneic cacti are differnent usuallty in spine arangement ant tollerancess such as trick. intallerasnce to pyrethrins

Be careful with those related threads links. Or you're going to bump a whole bunch of old posts.

Besides, didn't you post the exact same thing in another thread?
