Why is Dung so contaminate proof?
    #363388 - 07/30/01 04:06 AM (22 years, 7 months ago)

hi everyone,

well, i've just gotten into using worm castings spawned with BS and it's friggin great! my first batch of dung went somewhat bad, but i figured out that i had just put too much water into the castings. the second batch went a lot better with water content barely just turning the castings a dark brown color.

my question:

why is the contamination rate of dung so low? is there something in the dung that inhibits other molds and bacteria? just curious because this stuff is great =).

the castings also seem to be working great as a casing layer.

It's Ph. Too acidic for many contaminants.

I don't know but that's great news; I'm going to be using it pretty soon for growing Pans (ralphster's tek). Did you pasteurize your shit before casing?

Nope it doesnt stink to high hell. Just gives off a slight strange smell after you take it out of the oven and let it cool.
