Few questions regarding casing and drying

Just wondering if I could get a few questions answered:
First, im going to be making a casing, and I have 4 cakes for that. I have some other cakses that have just been harvested on the 2nd flush, and was wondering if I can crumble them up with the fresh cakes? Just because I dont want to wait for the 3rd flush, and get right at this casing.
Secondly, I have some mushies that need drying and I do not have any supplies for that, can I just put them on newspaper, and on the back of my monitor for a day?
Thanks in advance

I wouldn't mix fresh cakes with old cakes in a casing. Sorta like using a used condom and expecting it to perform like a new one...lol. Your old cakes are going to be lacking nutrients...plus the contam factor might get sped up.
Can't help you with they drying problem. I have always used a food dehydrator.
You could pick up a cheap used food dehydrator at a 2nd hand store for under $6.00.
Good luck!~

Do you have a fan? Put them in front of a fan for a day, that will dry them up pretty good. I fan for 24 hours then into the drying chamber(a.k.a. 5 gallon bucket with desiccant).

back of the monitor + newspaper eh?
monitor will create heat. heat decreases potency... but i've heard of people doing the same thing to dry theirs. fanning on a cookie rack for a day will dry the outside pretty well, and that will give you a little bit to go buy some damprid...
i wouldn't put the old cakes in the casing for reasons already named, plus there's the possibility of pins/knots getting on the inside of your casings, which would make mushrooms grow INSIDE if the casing.
