yo, my friend is wondering if the mycelium in a casing is ever supposed to fully colonize the top casing layer, or if this is undesirable...it would appear that many artincles in the shroomery contradict eachother on this issue. thanks.

being a non expert and a beginner as well as a first time grower, i'll repeat what I've read hoping it will be helpful.

Most of what I've read say that the mycelium should be barely visible, just poking through the casing when pinning should be initiated.

I wait until the surface is thoroughly covered with rhizomorphs, then give it a heavy direct misting with a spray bottle, which tends to inhibit further growth and initiate an explosion of pins.
