California Golden Poppies?
    #3629296 - 01/14/05 05:02 PM (19 years, 3 months ago)

I've been trying to find info and trip reports by people who have smoked California Poppies, but there isn't much there, even at Erowid, so I was wondering if anybody here had any experience with them. It's supposed to be very bodily relaxing and a good sleep aid, which would be great for me. I won't be picking any wild ones (they're protected) but I could grow my own very easily, with the sandy soil around here. Thanks!

Holly

Well I wouldn't call it a trip so you won't find it in the trip reports... And I always pick mine in public of california where they are the state flower and its a huge fine, I just dont let anyone see me do it, night it lovely for this. It is very relaxing and kind-of stupers you for a while, a poppy cigarette is very calming before bed, a definate A+. I have seeds of them if you would like to trade for some.

Cool. So theoretically an extract would have lots more of that stuff? Maybe I'll try to find some. I don't know how to make them myself.

They contain no opiates at all.. Whoever said they i do is bs...ing.

However you can buy papaver somniferam seeds from any bar and restaurant supply firm in the USA.

They are not treated and are referred to as Dutch Blue.

They are about $8.00 a 2 pound tin and are used for Kaiser rolls and cakes and other breads.

This one was photographed in Seattle, Washington's university District in the yard of a 70-year-old woman.

She plants them every year.

And here is a picture from an Meo village in the hill Tribes region of Chang Dao in northern Thailand from the later 1980s.

They are lying...

California poppies do give some effect though, it's suppose to be a relaxing experience, but nothing like the opium poppy (nor does it contain the same things as P. Somniferum).

Give it a try and see if you like it, they sell resin and flowers/pedals online if you don't want to get in any trouble picking them (and of course you could grow them too)

I find all the extract does is make me sleepy and less anxious.

I like Golden Poppies just for themselves, being the beauty they are, so I'd love to grow some, and I'm not looking for an Opium high, although I am planning on growing some opium poppies in the future. I'm just looking for something mild and relaxing that will help me sleep, since nothing I've tried up till now really works for me. Blue lotus is okay, but it takes a long time to kick in, and Kratom hasn't been effective at all yet. Maybe I'm not taking it right, I dunno. How much solid resin should I dissolve for it to be effective?

Maybe try some kava kava, or kratom paste from iamshaman (since the leaves have no effect on you - have you tried another source?)

Kava Kava's out, can't stand the taste. I haven't tried the Kratom leaves yet, just the resin, but I think a gram might not be enough. I will try the leaves, since lots of people swear by them.

Where in the world are people using California poppies to ween people off of opiates.

That is urban legend also. Not true and no recorded facts to support such a comment.

Her eis an image of young Lisu Hilltribe member standing watch over her villages opium poppy crop.

And a Meo Villages crop two different images form two different years.

I tried smoking the leaves and enjoyed it, bought mine too late for it to flower. It's a really nice plant, wouldn't mind buying a bottle of extract.
