That's like, high school biology/ghetto fermentation.
It'll work, but if you're not in jail, there are better ways to go about it.
If you do that, make bloody SURE you strain out the yeast.

First up, don't use standard baking yeast, unless you want your brew to taste like bread. Buy a wine brewing yeast from a home brew shop. You can use baking yeast if you really, really need to, but it won't taste great.

A good guide to basic fermenting can be found *here*

Sanitation is key; everything must be washed thoroughly, preferably with a weak bleach solution and then rinsed with clean water. Don't leave the top off your milk gallon completely; if possible, buy an airlock from a home brew shop. Alternatively, run a plastic hose from the top of the milk jug into a bowl of water; this is just so CO2 can get out without oxygen getting in. Yeast digesting fruit juice aerobicly (when oxygen is present) will produce lots of nasty off-flavours.

Basicly, what you describe there will work, as long as you wash everything and just be generally clean, but it will taste better if you use a proper wine yeast and some kind of an airlock.

That looks pretty close to the way i'm making it these days :grin: Don't be afraid to improvise a bit with the juice, say cranberry and apple in combiation, or peach. The possibilities for a party for your palate are virtually endless :smile:

2 or 3 days prolly wouldn't be enough to give it substantial kick. That's the hard part: Holding off til there is a decent concentration of alcohol :frown: I'm facing that difficulty mice-elf, the best thing to do is to get many batches going, once the stuff starts to ferment in the pot(or w/e) pour it into bottles and get another batch going! :yesnod:

Yeah i kinda like my shroomery screen name as well.You should be hearing the little darlin's(the yeast) talking to you sometime soon :grin: But it realy is in your best interest(i should take note of this) to let that shit really start to ferment unless the thought of drinking wine at 3 to 4% alcohol appeals to you
  The stuff should taste like it was tweaked from the teats of the goddess Aphrodite herself, i know mine does :yesnod:

Well i'm sort of brand new at this mice-elf man and don't claim to be any kind of authority but i mix all the shit in together right from the beginning :yesnod:


In reference to what you said earlier, i personally find that listening/watching the stuff ferment in the bottles is a much better indicie of how well things are progressing more so that smell :smile:

Years ago my  sister {16 or17?}stashed a glass gallon jug of apple cider in her closet hoping it would Harden :wink:.No airlock...or even a balloon.Cap on tight!    question    How many days until it exploded ,sending sticky, smelly, apple-jack soaked shards of glass  Everywhere??....hint....less than 2 weeks.

I am confused  :confused: Admittedly this is nothing new :grin: but HTPhuck did it explode if there was no lid of any sort on it? Wouldn't the opening let all the carbon dioxide or w/e out and prevent any sort of build up of sustained pressure?  :crazy:
