Marijuana bill in New Hampshire will remove criminal penalties
    #3633736 - 01/16/05 02:00 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

Rep. Tim Robertson (D-Keene) has taken a strong stand on behalf of responsible adults who use marijuana by introducing groundbreaking legislation: H.B. 197. His bill, which will soon receive a hearing in the House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee, eliminates all criminal penalties associated with marijuana.

Robertson has done his part -- he stood up for compassion and common sense. Now it's up to us to show his colleagues that sensible marijuana policy has strong support in New Hampshire. If you want to see criminal penalties associated with marijuana removed completely, MPP needs you to do two things.

First, send a letter to your legislators telling them that you support Rep. Robertson's bill, and urging them to do the same. The whole process -- from beginning to end -- takes mere seconds. It's the least we can do.

Second, forward this e-mail to everyone you know in New Hampshire so that every member of the General Court is bombarded with letters in support of the removal of criminal penalties associated with marijuana. Whether they live next door or across the state, we need them to take action in support of this landmark bill.

(Click here http://www.mpp.org/NH/bills_914.html to read the text of H.B. 197 as it now stands.)

Further, if you are -- or know of -- a doctor, attorney, law enforcement officer, or another type of prominent public figure in New Hampshire willing to testify on behalf of this bill at its upcoming committee hearing, please e-mail rgrim@mpp.org today.

We need to show lawmakers that the type of courage shown by Robertson, and his cosponsor Charles Weed (D-Keene), is rewarded and admired by voters. The only way to do that is to make our voices heard. Please visit our action center and forward this e-mail to as many people as you can think of.

Thank you for supporting the Marijuana Policy Project. We will update you when a date is set for a hearing on H.B. 197.

"And what are your thoughts, Senator Weed?"

lets pose this hypothetical question ..suppose that enough states liberalize their pot laws so as to carry a majority in the US congress...do you really think that the tom delay parliament in the house would ever let it come to the floor??...

What would need to come to the floor would be a bill that de-federalizes pot laws. I don't expect a Federal bill that directs the states to legalize pot to ever pass in this nation, nor should you really want it to. What works is this country is a system of federalism, and what we need is the feds to allow the states to do what they are going to do with zero interference when it comes to marijuana.

what i meant was that delay would never allow such a bill to come to the floor...
