Preacher dies with heaven on his lips
Tuesday, January 11, 2005 Posted: 7:41 AM EST (1241 GMT)
OVIEDO, Florida (AP) -- A Presbyterian minister collapsed and died at the pulpit after saying "And when I go to heaven...," his colleague said.
The Rev. Jack Arnold, 69, was nearing the end of his sermon Sunday at Covenant Presbyterian Church when he grabbed the podium before falling to the floor, said the Rev. Michael S. Beats, the church's associate pastor.
Several parishioners with medical backgrounds tried to revive Arnold and paramedics were called, but he appeared to die instantly, Beats said.
Arnold had been the senior minister at the church in this Orlando suburb until the late 1990s when he began traveling to Africa and the Middle East to teach pastors.
The cause of death was believed to be cardiac arrest. He had bypass surgery five years earlier. http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/01/11/preacher.collapse.ap/index.html

An old guy dying of cardiac arrest is evidence of god? I don't mean to offend anyone who does believe in god but really I don't think that is evidence.

It's obvious as soon as the pastor said, And when I go to Heaven, he confused God, who thought he wanted to go to Heaven right then, and so God supplanted his soul and put it in Heaven. The pastor didn't even get to finish his sentence because God was watching him so closely.
I thought you'd get that man

you'd think God, what with all his omniscience and -potence, would be a little more on top of whether the guy actually meant right then. but then, the Lord does work in mysterious ways.

I don't see how it's a joke at all, the timing is beyond any coincidence besides a divine force. Can you explain it otherwise, Mr Skeptic?

Strange coincidences happen all the time. It's a big world out there. Look up the Darwin Awards. They have all kinds of strange and ironic deaths in there.

The Lord works in what we perceive as coincidences and irony. They are really his majestic hand guiding the world to Heaven

This is an assumption, and a shaky one at that. As such, this does not even come close to "evidence."

Well, it's how you interpret it I guess, you could interpret it as a joke or "evidence of god". But since it is a news article I'm sure it wasn't meant to be a joke so you are probably right.

Thanks, I thought most people with common sense would realize the evidence of the Great God himself when He shows His Hand in this world.

Have you considered the possibillity that perhaps there could be other conscious manifestations outside of your sensory range who could also be instigating in the events that occur in this dimension?

Even if you assume before-hand that god exists, this incident contains absolutely nothing to suggest that the death was his doing. If you make no assumptions.. well, then this guy had a heart attack in the middle of a sermon. What, you think that was the only time he said "heaven" during that sermon? I really doubt that.
This sort of thing happens to people all the time. There is no suggestion that anything divine took place.

If the story is indeed true I guess I might take note of the syncronicity, but 'god' can be anything..

If God mistaked what the man was saying then I guess it also proves that he doesn't know everything... Also, the man died during a sermon, something he does at least once a week. So the odds of him dieing then aren't that bad. Think about the people having heart attacks during their weekly sitcom, or when they are doing other things that they do frequently. I do believe in God (Higher beings), I'm just saying that it/they don't know everything before it happens.
