Ok, so my las post was asking about using a humidifier in my growing chamber. It seems most of the vets at this are telling me not to bother right now. I've been reading this message board picking up a few tips here and there but I still have a few questions. I was looking around the picture thread and i saw a lot of pictures of shrooms growing out of a disposable baking tin thingies. They seem to be set in a terrarium on some white stuff. What is this tech? Where can i find information about it? And does it require a lot of maintance?Second, What is perlite? I know it's volcanic ash but how does it create humidity? Thanks in advace for your responses :)

Thanks in advace for your responses :) perlite is something you can use to create humidity. i could never get it to work the way i wanted it, so i cant help you there.

Those are casings in those tins. You can find out how to make a casing in the grow/find section of the shroomery. That white stuff is perlite. Perlite is very porous (filled with tiny holes). This allows the perlite to hold alot of water. When you use perlite for humidity it acts as a wick. It pulls the water from the bottom up to the surface of the perlite and then the water evaporates into the air (Transpiration). This creates a more natural humidity consisting of water vapor, as apposed to the water droplets put into the air by a humidifier.
