California Actives
    #3631785 - 01/15/05 05:58 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

These were found recently in San Francisco.
The habitat was a mixture of sand, soil and eucalyptus bark.

Blueing was heaviest on the gills and upper stem, not really on the cap.
A spore print is being taken just to be safe.

I'm farily certain they are active, any opinions?
The bottom of the stem turned almost black after picking.
The stems were white prior to picking.

(I know my photo skills need some work)

Eucalyptus seems like a nice substrate for Cyans.
Even though it's an evergreen, most wood workers consider it
equal to hickory, oak or ash as a hardwood.
Cyan mycelium takes to it quite nicely.

Thanks 5150

The Shroomery is an amazing forum to share information.
I know newbies show up and ask the same questions
over and over again...  It probably get frustrating for some.

Yup, GGP. It's a big place, I've been there a few times this season with no luck. These Cyans were found about 1/2 mile off the coast. Mostly sand with some wood chips burried beneath. They mycelium was growing thru the sand like roots on a tree, thick white strands creating an underground network with the eucalyptus bark. A beautiful habitat.

^^^

Those cyans in GGP may have been gurreila innocut. considering the amount of cultivation in that area...unless Cyans naturally grown there (is that common?)

Hey, Strangeland, nice find!

Now I need to look in the eucalyptus bark, too? I would have thought that the bark would poison the cyans (having heard that eucalyptus bark tends to suppress other plants...). But, cool. They look just like the cyans I find in the dunes up here near Humboldt Bay. Growing in a mixture of sand, through grass, up here.

Thanks for sharing.
