1 doz of my jars are done and currently undergoing cold shock and dunk. I have the fruiting chamber setup with wet perlite on bottom. when i put the cakes into the fruiting chamber, should i place the cakes directly on or in the perlite or should i have the cakes sitting on some kind of plate?

Don't put the cakes directly onto the perlite.
Put the cakes on the jar lids or on pieces of alum foil.
Good luck!~

yeah dunking is already more than enough. directly on the perlite'll give you disproportionate fat asses...and nobody likes a fatty well... you know what I meant

sorry to jack the thread, but is the same true for the PMP? Because a friend of mine told me that I should just have my cake directly on the geo-lite to get the full benefit of the pmp, I checked Magash's thread and his cakes were resting directly in the geo-lite.
anyone know?

i can help u out on this one. i have done this several ways: placing cakes on the jar lid with fresh vermiculite with peroxide, placing cakes directly on perlite, and turning them upside down on perlite. believe it or not, turning them upside down with the vermiculite residue still on the top from inside of the jar has worked the best for me. most shrooms tend to grow from the bottom of the cakes so i figured i would try to flip them. this has resulted in bigger flushes and taller thicker shrooms.

Geo-lite is different than Perlite.
You can put the cakes directly onto Geo-lite. Geo-lite is used in hydroponics systems to wick water into the root system of plants...we use it to wick water into mushroom cakes.
The Geo-lite won't overly soak the cakes like sitting directly on Perlite.
Plus Geo-lite is easier to clean up after grows than Perlite.
And putting cakes directly onto perlite will increase the chance of contams...IMHO
Injecting sterile water into cakes with a syringe will increase yeild...if you use Perlite and want to get simular results as Geo-lite. Inject 10cc of sterile water at birth of your cake...then inject 5cc of water every 2 to 3 days after.
Good luck!~

Hey roadkill!
I was trying that, injecting water in the cakes. Cause when I have pins I "mist" with a syringe.. To aim water right but not on the caps. Then I tried to inject in the cake but I could not get any water out.
Push harder?
Thanks for your contributions here!

Yeah you have to push the needle from the syringe into the cake and it can be a little hard to do...push harder!~
Having burly arms helps.
