Can someone help me i want to grow large shroomies from dung or compost that is available at home depot or somthing, and how would i spawn with cakes?

pasteruise dung, mix in colonised cakes, let mycelium grow for a little, then case with more dung or coir. Botta Bing you've got mushrooms. Sweet.

oh and about that "hypothetical" tube growing versus large surface area, DUE to the conservation of energy the surface area would beat the tube every time. according to stamets in tmc, up to 70% of the total YIELD (heh :smile: can come from the first two flushes. and besides this, energy will be needed for the mycellium to exist and keep on living, even if only vegetative...

Soo much animosity in this thread..lol..........Hump why don't you go look at 'mushroom pictures'...Psilocybe Cubensis has posted a nice thread which has some pretty pictures to look at. It is called "A Big Ass Casing". Perhaps the pictures can be more descriptive to you than words...hadta get mine in. In the case of the casing depicted, wheat straw was used. Wheat straw can be picked up at any feed store for little dinero (that's money hombre). It can be spawned just fine with the cakes you have. You can of course substitute the straw for dung or compost. However, I don't think you will find anything at the Home Depot worth using for substrate. They sell some composted manure for gardening but it isn't worth a shit for shroom growing, I have tried. I recommend using it in your flowerbeds instead. Wheat or oat straw is plenty easy to work with. There is plenty of information on the topic of pasteurizing straw, which will be necessary. One of the previous fellows or myself could give a quick and easy method for doing so. As far as your need for a high YIELD, I have lots of friends that gladly eat shroomies so I can see the need in some cases. If you intend to sell them, may all of your casings be cursed.
