Inoculating jars with colonized substrate, can it be done??

I just put my fully colonized cakes into the aquarium and I'm ready to start another set of cake colonizing while my first batch fruit. However, I don't have any mushrooms to make a spore-print and syringe from yet. So, I was wondering if it would work to just sacrifice one of my fully colonized cakes, cut it into small pieces and place those into fresh substrate jars. Quiet, I know I'm cheap and impatient.

If your clean enough this can be done, search grain to grain, it should turn up answers
