Straw and second flushes
    #356316 - 07/17/01 12:57 PM (22 years, 8 months ago)

What should I do to get a second flush out of my straw? It is not cased it is just straw mixed w/ castings. For the past 2 days I've been misting and fanning less than duirng fruitbody growth.

Did it dry out real bad from the first flush? That's what happened to my poop bucked. I'm thinking about adding a casing layer so I can re-moisturize.

Thanks for the help McMan. I haven't heard that tip before. Well anyhow the second flush was nice and I think I I'll try what you suggested. Nice work P. Cubensis. How big was your rubbermaid? What strain? Dry weight?

Your right about none of your business. You will begin to understand all of this after a while and you will be rolling and laughing at some of the shit said around here.

I have been wondering if one could rehydrate a straw substrate similar to the dunk tek/cold shock used on PF cakes. If you could get a big enuff container to submerge the myc block, but still fit in the fridge. I wonder....

This has been done by Mikologist, who frequents FF.

Works like a charm from what he said.

Soaked for 24 hours I think.

It's been done by everyone that grows gourmets. I've done it with shitake sawdust blocks, no reason why it wouldn't work for straw.

After the second flush, I flipped over a 4" dung/straw sub like a pancake. Hoping to get a flush or two from the bottom. Other than that, just waiting for the green mold now..

Little by little, bit by bit, little-bit by little-bit. Now ya got it, that's it!

Glad to hear that dunking straw works. I did this yesterday, before I read this thread, then got worried I'd fucked up. It's a DB style box, so I just poured in enough water to cover it and left it for a bit then drained.
ps. you're the greatest PC:)
