The Cosmic Joke
    #3629507 - 01/14/05 08:12 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

"Since that time, Michael's consciousness, his thinking and his actions, were nothing but extensions of that trip. He had died, spun out into the richness of interior space, had unraveled the riddle of the Cosmic Joke and was now cautiously, comically, moving through the marionette show of normal reality."
-Timothy Leary
High Priest

Who out here in the Shroomery has unraveled the riddle? I have.
Put it in your own words, although the simplest word is just:

No ONE wants to know the ultimate TRUTH, as soon as YOU find IT out, YOU want to forget IT.

You are everything's way of feeling itself.

Hehe....

and...  :nut:

(edit): As for words, Trent Reznor singed it nicely:

"all the world's weight is on my back and i don't even know why
and what i used to think was me is just fading memory"

Good. What song is that from?

How about this one:
I am the ultimate fool, the real Truman show, for exterestrial intellegences throughout the galaxy. Aliens of all types watch me compete with myself, kill myself, make fun of myself, and all the myriad of things that us humans do to each other. But who are these aliens? Who controls this bad reality TV? This insane science fiction show with an ending worse than any Twilight Zone ever, this is the Twilight Zone. We are in the machine.

a less 'cosmic' joke.

A Buddhist Monk approachs a New York hot dog vendor and asks 'Brother, can you make me one with everything?'

that is from down in it, and in actuality down in it is a direct rip off of skinny puppy's dig it song, which Trent directly took, sped up, and added his own vocals. he admitted this in some magazine, i cant remember where i read it, like circus or metal mag or some shit, i was like 14, so i instantly went and checked out skinny puppy after reading that. i realized why he stole the music from their songs, they are awesome.
but as to the cosmic joke.
i can not put my words so poetically and mysteriously, but it all boils down to reality is subjective to what our mass consciouses decide to make our physical environment. some of us chose this puppet show we call life. some of us accept the daily 9-5 m-f, the money that is made out of nothing, the illusion of security through power in the hands of individuals, and so on. but when you think about all your own shit, and compare it to the shit of the world, it is nothing, we really are not as big as we think, as important, but we are in our own little world. and the same goes on and on. our world is nothing compared to the beauty and mystery of the galaxy we reside within. it is in infinite eternal progression forward. it is understanding the point of alpha and omega, and realizing we have always been here, and just never realized it.
that is where some of us chose to reside, outside the puppeteers hands. (or as best we could)
sorry my thoughts are so random....
that is my 2 cents.

Well, but wouldn't the aliens be watching and laughing from themselves too? Or maybe not and this "ONE" is only one of many ones.....

Song - Down in it by Nine Inch Nails. I knew this song like forever and its scary how above quoted lines fit to my last mushroom experience.

Yeah, that way I described is a really bad way to look at it. But I have been there before while tripping. On the plus side, the joke is everything you could have ever hoped for but at the same time it is your worst fear, or would that be a negative? Seeing that all choices are illusionary and that both sides of the coin are valid. Each one is just a different description of the same thing. Neither one is right or wrong.

"our world is nothing compared to the beauty and mystery of the galaxy we reside within." We are a part of the galaxy and that beauty is found in all human beings who are microcosms of the macrocosm. We are reflections of that very beauty and mystery that you revere.

i first experienced the cosmic joke when i smoked a bowl of 5x salvia. it all happened so fast, this was before i had ever done shrooms or had any ego loss. i had never even read about experiences of the sort. while i was comming down i thought i was gonna tell everyone the secret and change the whole world.

But you can`t really say it... that`s why it`s still a secret and you have to experience it, and forget it... but still remember it in a way  ... I mean...

oh well, never mind

Yeah, its like our brain is designed just to be a limiting thing. You can easily be in it, but to take it out from there, and to put it into language. You get something like William James: Overall there a smell of fried onions. Or something like that. It is gibberish in normal language, but experiencially, it makes all the sense in the world.
You can say somthing that seems to capture it though. It just takes some careful wording.

i think there is still a place to make ripples within the joke, and change the nature of the joke while we're here - and i do think it matters.

I think discounting *human* power in the grandscheme of things is selling yourself short.

wel... its when you realize
that everything we do is so fucking stupid and ridiculous!
100% of what we do is true to the universe, because we are
a prodcut of it, and since we are so ridiculous
so is the universe.

so you either are the punchline
or youre the comedian.

you decide.
