Death squads in Iraq?
    #3628956 - 01/14/05 05:26 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I haven't been here for a while, and I'm surprised to not find a single post about something I read in the newspaper some days ago, or maybe I heard it on TV. I've done a search, and nothing came up.

They said that Newsweek announced on its website that the US government was seriously considering training and using death squads in Iraq, like they did before in several Latin American countries. The death squads would track down, capture, interrogate, and probably torture and summarily execute (alleged) guerillas, so that burden wouldn't rest on the shoulders of GI's and/or Iraqi police agents and soldiers. Iyad Allawi, the Great Leader and precursor of democracy in Iraq, was extremely enthusiastic and said he can't wait.

It perfectly fits the grand plan, of course: how can you run a recent third world democracy (recent third world AND recent democracy...) without a decent death squad department? Death squads are the very essence of exported democracy.  The rule of law without the hassle of legality.

Great vision, go USA...!

I can get you many links in one.
Haven't read them though, not even the original Newsweek article, I just told you what I remembered from the top of my memory.

Hey, strange, nobody seems to have heard of it. Did such an enormity pass unnoticed in the US??

Edit: Damn, the UBB code to make the link works in the preview, but not in the actual post  Does anyone know why? Anyway, copy and paste the Google link.

How can we be sure these death squads will not be used to exterminate political opposition, as well?

I think U.S. troops have already done an effective job of removing any political opposition.

If this is true it is not enough and it is coming far to late. This has become a conflict based on the principle of attrition. Dramatic measures which should have been taken since the inception of this conflict must be taken now if Iraq is to have any semblance of hope in becoming a civilized society.

And on a side note, are people in PAL getting dumber or am i just getting smarter.

Examples? Perhaps you mean the Sunnis? No they're doing just fine blowing up things. Same with the Islamic Fundamentalists. Or maybe Al Sadr? Well he is being reinfranchised by the Iraqi government. Hell, the militants have been invited INTO the political process by Allawi.

Any way you look at it, the US is certainly a long way from stopping political and armed opposition.

I am all for it. The Shi have relaxed but the Sunni is freaking out. I don't want to seem like an evil fuck but I am a realist and this is perfectly normal. If you can't assimilate a group of people, then the only choice that's left is force, extreme force, force that's beyond conventional warfare.

To achieve what, exactly?

Hah, achieve what? Well, let me say one thing first, "Religion is not a democracy." Since the Shia are more accepting of new interpetations and ideas and the Sunnis are really strict about Islam, I support the subjugation of Sunnis. You see, the Abbasid and Ummayad empire was all Sunni so most of the Muslims are Sunnis. We need to make sure that the Shias get more power and keep expanding assimilating Sunnis. That way we can get them to accept the world as it is today, well, the West as it is today. We can get them to accept democracy. The only way we can make sure that Shias who are less than 20 percent of the Muslims get power, is to kill off the Sunni extremists. If we cannot do it with less extreme methods, then the Death Squads are the next best thing, unless someone else has any ideas of how they can become more accepting of democracy.

If the same argument were to apply to America, the left would be in charge.

Last time i checked our forefathers didn't want America to become socialist either. So how about we kill off them all and put me in charge, or at least some libertarians.

Wow, hold the fuck up. I never fucking said kill people off if they aren't causing any fucking violence. The sunnis are going mad and killing the Shias, trying to start a civil war. The Sunni extremists need to be killed off because there's no other way that a Democracy can be established there. The conservatives and the liberals do hate eachother but they don't plow FUCKING BOMBS INTO EACHOTHER's HQ'S. Stop twisting my words.

I think the removal of Saddam would count as removal of political opposition.
