just bought a pocket one off of ebay and setting it up

I put an american dime on it and it said its weight was "2.3grams"

is this right?

didn't your scale come with a calibration weight? mine came with a 100 gram weight for calibration, if it reads 100.0 on that weight then you know everything in between will be damned close enough to accurate...

when you've got a digi scale you'll always know who not to trust, because they'll be getting very nervous when you pull that thing outta yer pocket....you can almost hear them thinking of quick excuses in their head....

Your scale is working just fine.
A dime weighs 2.27, your scale weighs to the tenths.
.27 rounds up to .3, so 2.27 should show on your scale as 2.3, which is what you are reporting.
