hi psilocebeen!
not what you were asking for but might be interesting though.

i?m an media art student and just started working on the sonification of genes, which means that i try to represent biochemical characteristics of amino acids by mapping them to controlparameters of sound synthesis. i?m not yet confident with the results but i?m on my way. as i love schrooms i?d really like to get my hands on genetic (sequence) data related to psilocybin mushrooms. could you perhaps help me with that or point me to any books/articles related to the genetics of psilocybe mushrooms?

best

I'm just a stoner that grows shrooms. Wish I had some clue as to what you both were talking about

All published gene sequencing data from journals and patents are entered into a database that is freely accessible. You can search it at Genbank (change the search type from Entrez to Nucleotide), EMBL-Bank or DDBJ. It is the same data, but different interfaces to it.

hi pinback,
thank you for the links! i knew about those databases, but i rechecked the site and found that there are several groups dedicated especially to fungi genomics, maybe they can help. what i am actually looking for is books/articles related to genetic research on psilocybes to get a clue what is known about them genewise, so i could feed the database with the right search terms. as it seems, there are no complete genomes of any psilocybes decoded, so i need to know which parts are in order to find them.

best

zos

i?m trying to make genes listenable. it?s generally a form of representation. imagine an illustration or a 3d animation of a double helix. as it consists of the four different bases guanine, thymine, adenine and cytosine building it, one would choose to map four different colors - one to each base, so you can distinguish them visually. now, a very similar thing can be done to make genes not only visble, but also hearable. for this example, one could choose four different notes and map them to the bases g, t, a, c and then play on a piano or feed it to a synthesizer or a sound program and you get an acoustic representation resembling the proportions and patterns within the dna. but in a computer (to a certain extent also on piano of course) one can control many more parameters than just the heighth of a tone, but also its length, it?s relative loudness, filters and effects etc.... so one can represent more than just the actual base, but also it?s hydrophobicity, molecular weight etc... depending on what characteristics one wants to show.

hope i could clear it up a little bit. my english is not that good. hope you can understand.

best

zos

we need more science driven minds here
i have read my share of genetics but am more
prone towards chemistry(bio)
i am interested in what information you have to share

nothing to it..any one can set up a professional lab in ther basement with the proper funds. Many independant thinkers and scientist alike study from there personal libraries. were all scientist here, intersted in achieving the best end results. spend the money, buy the books, buy the tools. With the right technology and enough practice any one can perfect the trade. i think were all well upon our way to becoming something a little better. why stop now?

I don't know about anyone else, but I love having a nice lab to work in.

So what would you put in your lab?

For me I like

A nice incubator to put the jars in!

A Good flow hood is a must!

A nice autoclave to sterilize your tools

A Scanning electron microscope, Just to make sure you have clean samples

And once you have your mushrooms you can use the DNA Analyzer to check and make sure the strain you think you have is really what it claims to be

And last but not lease you should have a Gas Chromatography with Mass Spectrometer to check the content of the mushrooms.

Did I miss anything?

will share the soundfiles when ready.

one could also take the chem formula of psilocybine and translate it to sound. perhaps you heard about those experiments with plants, where they played different kinds of music to stimulate growth (ragas and classical music seemed to work best). so, why not try this with shrooms playing them the psilo-formula or (parts of) their dna?

Also: a PCR machine, a superconducting antenna, a titanium alloy forge, lots of robots, and meters, meters, meters.
