How do you know if your desiccant doesn't contain any unwanted additives?

Yesterday I bought a bag of 'drying agent' that had written, "Contains Calcium Chloride". How do I know whether or not it contains any unwanted chemicals? I bought it from a DIY shop.

just get what's known to be good. Look in the FAQ and it should have a few brand names listed.

I live in the UK, so it's of no help!

Since you shouldn't allow the mushrooms come in contact with the desiccant, it doesn't really matter.

Anno is right. Additives or not, your mushies shouldn't be coming in direct contact with it anyway. Really, a desiccant is a desiccant. Calcium Chloride is a pretty common additive...it's just salt. You should be cool.

No, salt is sodium chloride. Calcium chloride is what absorbs all the moisture.

Yes yes, that's right. Too many chlorides to keep track of. Calcium chloride & sodium chloride are 2 of the basic ingredients in 'road salts' for deicing and whatnot, right?
