mycelium growth

i "birthed" my first two cakes about 5 days ago :)
but balls of mycelium just keep growing from the cakes and no shrooms seem to appear!
my questions are; is it normal for mycelium to continue growing after the birthday? how long does it take for shrooms to appear after cakes are put in the terrarium?

Sounds as if everything is fine. It can take up to 2 weeks after introducing the cakes to light for pinning to take place. Just keep giving them light and be patient, you'll have shrooms soon.
