myc. will grow through the verm. layer. the only other thing it could be is cobweb mold and that doesnt look like myc...cobweb is more greyish.

What is it about this post...
"hey i just birthed my cake and i dunked and rolled it in sterile verm, its been 2 days and im seeing what looks like white poofy things growing ontop of the verm, looks like myc but i just wanna make sure that myc should or will still be growing on the cake. the poofy things are pure white too. i will get pics"
...that makes you think it's a contam? Please, if you're not absolutely sure about what you say, then just don't say it.

Now, Smoorhsmmm, to answer you question, it is very normal to see mycelium poking through the vermiculite layer. It is more than likely just colonizing this new verm. Once it starts to come through like this, be sure to keep your temperatures around 75F and the RH at 95% and you should see pinning in a few days. Don't get discouraged if you don't get pins by then. They will come but under optimal conditions I usually notice them within 2-3 days after the myc starts to penetrate the verm layer. Hope this helps and GL

well im pretty sure its not contam i've seen plenty of pics of mold and what i got isnt thin and wispy like grey mold im just wondering if the myc will grow over the verm layer. also no bad smells or odd colors. ooh rh is in the 90's using perlite and h202 and temp is in the mid 70's air exchange 2x or 3x a day and the cake gets inderect sunlight most of the day

Do they look like this?
I've seen this a few times (usually with PR's) but it's no big deal and doesn't seem to mess with fruiting.
(That's a big brf cake by the way)
