steam temperature / pressure relation

hey!

so @ 15psi, which is 1 BAR pressure, water boils around 120C.

ive been googling for some time now but i wasnt able to find a
chart showing me the water temp above 1 BAR pressure.

can someone list me the temperature for 1.2 / 1.4 / 1.6 bar and so on?
id really need it concerning tyvek melts at 135C and i want to toy
around a bit.

120 deg is recognized as the "sterilization temperature"

I can't find anything...
I tried to do a google myself using various search words, and I still could find any info that's goes beyond 257f (15lb.).
I even tried to search under the word incinerator's.
Good Luck!

Found this on google with search term:

"Pressure boiling relationship"

It only goes to 15 psi, but has the mathamatical formula if you want to go higher - or just follow the 'line of best fit' on the graph to guesstimate higher values.

Boiling Point Of Water As A Function Of Pressure

This example models the relationship between the boiling point of water and the ambient pressure.

As ambient pressure decreases, the boiling point of water also decreases. This relationship can be modeled by Clapeyron's Equation which shows that the boiling temperature (in degrees Fahrenheit) is related to pressure as follows:

Temperature = b / log(Pressure/a) - 459.7

where a and b are parameters whose values are to be determined by the analysis.

Here are the NLREG statements to fit this function:

Do a search for "BOYLES LAW"
I can only find my chart for refrigerants , but I think doing a search for the above named law may give you the data you seek .

You may get lucky and find an "ENTHALPY CHART " for water , but I am not sure , so do a search for that too .

Boyle's law has nothing to do with this....

The Clausius-Clapeyron's equation describes the dependence of the steam pressure and temperature.

thank you for ur input anno,
now it seems to me as if i should have actually listened up a weeeee
bit more in the physiks lessons at school :/

specifically, the whole deal is about the melting point of TYVEK.
i wouldnt really like to melt it, so i need to keep the temperature
below 135C/275F and i would like to know how many BAR or PSI pressure would
make the pc heat to that temperature.

is 1.2Bar pressure safe concerning TYVEK ?

first of all, thanks for that great graph anno, it allowed me a preeeeetty
unexact but good guess by calculating the values and drawing straight lines.

IF i am right, i should play safe up to a Pressure of 40psi equalling 2.758 BAR,
staying below these values should guarantee me that the tyvek wont melt
away.

getting this validated by someone who actually can calculate the formula
would be even better though :wink:

Total pressure, yes.

Subtract ~15(~1 bar) from that to get the relative pressure over the atmospheric pressure.

Here is a formula:

Replace the 100 (which is 100?C) (it is there twice in the formula!!) with any number between 0 and 150 to obtain the corresponding water vapor pressure.

The result is in bar absolute pressure (1 bar = 14,504 PSI)

using your formula it should be:

((6.11200 * (10 ** ((7.5 * 135) / (237.7 + 135)))) / 1 000) - 1 = 2.18306524 on the temp gauge of the clave

so, going to 2 BAR itll melt, staying below it is cool beans :smile:

Sorry for misquote , was talking with someone about this stuff when was typing , meant to say do search for thermodynamics of steam , or saturated steam tables .
Here is a place you can go and input known data and it does all the work for you http://www.connel.com/freeware/steam.shtml , use situation #2 table .

It will give you more than you are asking , but none the less will do the same work .

Answers to

1.2 bar pressure = 104.82 *C
1.4 = 109.33 *C
1.6= 113.46*C
1.8 = 117.00*C
2.0= 120.24

Does this help , or am I way off base again ?

actually, the formula anno provided me with did the perfect job
(well we all did know that as he posted it right heh)

im just checking out the engineering site you posted
and it IS helpful, you did a very fine search on that.

lets give this man a good rating, he sure deserved it :smile:

btw for everyone who may be interested:

2  BAR = 120.24 degrees C
2.2 BAR = 123.31 degrees C
2.4 BAR = 126.17 degrees C
2.6 BAR = 128.84 degrees C
2.8 BAR = 131.21 degrees C
3  BAR = 133.55 degrees C

as calculated with anno's formula from above, 3 bar, or 2 bar relative pressure over the atmospheric pressure will melt it.

matches 100% with your formula :smile:
