A friend of mine wants to know what are on these cakes...is it normal growth. Going on 3 days in a terranium at 77-82 degrees...& 93-94% humidity. They are all over the cake..but I just pointed to a few on each.

Holy Shit!!!! It's got red arrows on it!
I'd throw it out!
Maybe you should burn it, just to be safe.

Mud, if it is pointing at those little lumps of mycelium, then yes, they are normal. If it is pointing at somethigs else, then I have no idea..

It's just mycellial growth. If you had cased those cakes, the casing would now be getting overtaken.
Unless you are talking about those little red arrows. I would try to cut those out!

In response to the casing being overtaken...I have a small casing using the wafer tek from OldTimer...how do I know if it's being overtaken? Or is being overtaken a good thing?

Mycelium forms hyphal knots prior to pinning. What you see is normal. Shouldn't be long be now. You'll start to see yellowish lumps with red dots on them (pins)

yup, be careful if you see yellow/amber droplets coming from mycelia, they're ok, they're even beautiful but there's sure an abhort underneath or otherwise that amber droplet would have turned into a cap. if its an abhort, you'll have to remove it (but it doesnt mean your friend has to throw it away) otherwise they'll rot as a not picked mushroom would with time and mold can grow on it and that's something you dont want.
with cold weathers, ive seen the most alien form abhorts possible - bumps of deformed thick stemlike tissue with bubbles made of cap tissue inside and some other bizzarre things, you should look for that if your temps are low. otherwise, dont worry, be happy. just keep temp on upper range and keep right moisture.
i hate wit sigs / if anything i say has something in common with reality, this is a merely a coincidence.
