 To thin or not to thin...? (p. somniferum)

I have a few poppies growing on a flower pot. Besides those i have two smaller pots with one plant each.
In addition i spread a few seeds across fields and gardens  but they are not doing as good as these b/c i can't give them proper care.
So i'm just counting on my flower pots to give me at least one dose so i can see what poppy tea is all about in the spring.
 
As you can see, they are very closely spaced. I'm wondering what would give me the best yield in my super limited space.
Should i thin them?
I know if i thin i'll probably get bigger, more beautiful pods but what would yield the most weight in pods, thinning or not thinning?

They don't take well to transplanting so it's either thin or don't. I'd let them work it out themselves. Usually a few die anyway. They will bend and spread out to the sides. They'll need a bigger pot pretty soon. I have some in the ground right now and I'm not thinning them.

You look good, they like being a bit squished, about 3-4" spacing is perfect.

One way to transplant hard-to-transplant items is sew too many seeds in the beginning, thin so only the strongest few are left, and then transplant the entire rootball at once so there is very limited distress to the plants. I have had great success with cucumbers this way and they don't usually take well to transplanting. Sorry if this seems to be common sense to a lot of you...

What may be common sence to some many not be to others. I'm sure those who wouldn't have thought of this appreciate it.

Thanks for the help people.
I'll prolly move the entire rootball to a bigger pot.
I didn't start with a bigger pot b/c i only put a small pinch of seeds there. I wasn't expecting that many plants to sprout.
But they are looking healthy and all so i was kinda hoping i didn't have to kill some.

I always use peat pots with hard to transplant items. You can get them at home depot. Just fill them with potting soil and when they are ready to go outside or into a big pot, you put the whole thing in the soil and no transplant shock. That's what I did with my poppies this winter.

I haven't ever gotten that to work for me. The plants I start indoors are too weak to survive. I think they need the stress from the flowing air to streingthen their tiny stems.
